ABSTRACT

A total of seventy-two dairy male calves were randomly allocated into 9 groups, by which three levels of fresh milk replacement (70, 80 and 90% of fresh milk by milk replacer) and three periods of feeding fresh milk (1, 2 and 3 months) were applied. The results showed that daily gain weight and healthy status did not differ among treatments (P>0.05). Regarding to production cost per kg gained weight, however, the regime of 80% milk replacement and the remain fresh milk fed in the first month showed the most benefits. In conclusion, self-made milk replacer by available materials can be replaced 80% of fresh milk for dairy male calves for beef production.
