In ethnic minority areas of Binh Phuoc and Dak Nong provinces, rice growers have been rearly approached to new techniques of rice production, therefore leading to their rice yields were low and high cost price in comparing to other regions. The project contents aimed to select promising varieties, determine reasonable seed rate and doses of fertilizer suitable to special locations. Trials were evaluated by IRRI (1996), national standards 10TCN 554-2002. Research results were selected 6 promising varieties having short growth duration, 17% higher yield than the controls, better quality, tolerant to blast disease and brown plant hopper. Identification of suitable seed rates were 120 kg/ha & 120-150 kg/ha in rainy and dry seasons respectively for Binh Phuoc province; 90-120 kg/ha & 120-150 kg/ha in rainy and dry seasons respectively for Dak Nong province. Suitable rate of applied fertilizer were 60-90N + 60P2O5 + 50 K2O (rainy season) and 90-120N + 60P2O5 + 50 K2O kg/ha (dry season) for Binh Phuoc; 90-120 N + 60P2O5 + 50 K2O (rainy season), 120N + 60P2O5 + 50 K2O kg/ha (dry season) for Dak Nong province. In Binh Phuoc province, production models gained higher profit ratio of 9.9-13.5% and 13.2-26.8% in dry and rainy seasons respectively. In Dak Nong, dry season with 21.8-27.8% and 2.0 – 72.0%, rainy season with 20.6-41.1% and 6.7-23.9% higher profit ratio in low and high intensity cultivation areas respectively comparing to traditional production models.
