ABSTRACT

 

      Five hundred fifty two fattening pigs from 2 farms in southeastern region had been allocated in the experiment during 2007-2009. Of which, 40 fatted pigs from terminal boars of three and four ways cross with F1 sow LY were slaughtered for meat quality evaluation.

     The experiment results showed that the fattening pigs from terminal boars of high Duroc blood proportion had high daily gain if 655-728g (28-72g/day or 6-15%) higher than that of terminal Pietrain boar. Meanwhile, fattening pigs from boar of high Pietrain blood proportion had high ratio of learn meat/carcase (58.80-62.85%) with 1.73-5.78% higher than that of terminal Duroc boar; and with lower backfat thickness (8.09-10.17mm).

      Terminal boar groups of Pietrain-Duroc and pure Duroc have been preferred and popularly used for commercial pig production in southeastern region.
