Study Confirms Safety of GM Soybean in a Subchronic Rodent Feeding Study

The food safety assessment of genetically modified (GM) soybean DBN9004 × DBN8002 × DBN8205 demonstrated its safety in a subchronic rodent feeding study. The results were published in Food and Chemical Toxicology.

 

The GM soybean variety DBN9004 × DBN8002 × DBN8205 was developed by Beijing Dabeinong Biotechnology Co., Ltd. by incorporating genes conferring resistance to glyphosate (epsps), glufosinate (pat), and lepidopteran pests (cry1Accry2Ab2, and mVip3Aa). The subchronic toxicity study in Wistar Han RCC rats was conducted to evaluate the effects of diets containing GM soybean for 90 days.

 

The food safety assessment showed that no treatment-related effects on body weight/gain, food consumption/utilization, clinical signs, mortality, ophthalmology, clinical pathology (hematology, prothrombin time, urinalysis, serum chemistry), organ weights, and gross and microscopic pathology were observed in rats fed with the GM soybean. The results confirmed that there were no significant differences in safety between GM soybean DBN9004 × DBN8002 × DBN8205 compared to the non-GM Jack.
