15 Canadian Universities Sign Charter to Address Climate Change

Fifteen universities in Canada have joined forces to tackle climate change by pledging to follow responsible investment practices. The charter recognizes climate change to have profound social, economic, and environmental changes in Canada and around the world. As such, universities have a responsibility to act constructively to address this challenge.

• The charter signatories pledge to abide by the following principles and practices, and encourage other universities to do the same:

• Adopt a responsible investing framework to guide investment decision-making, in line with recognized standards;
•  
• Evaluate progress towards these objectives on a regular basis, and share the results of such assessments publicly; and
•  
• Ensure that the performance evaluation of our investment managers takes into account their success in achieving such objectives, alongside the other criteria for assessing their performance.
